Former finance minister Trevor Manuel has been named chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) Board, tasked with overseeing preparations for the tournament to be co-hosted by South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
The announcement was made by Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie during a press briefing in Johannesburg, where he hailed the board as a “powerhouse of experience” capable of delivering a world-class event.

Trevor Manuel is no stranger to leadership. As South Africa’s finance minister from 1996 to 2009, he played a central role in stabilizing the economy during the country’s democratic transition. Beyond politics, his career includes high-profile positions such as chairperson of Old Mutual and commissioner on the Global Commission on the Economy and Climate.
In his new role, Manuel will provide independent oversight, ensuring the World Cup is both financially sound and operationally seamless. His appointment reflects the organizers’ intent to blend governance expertise with sporting ambition.

The LOC Board unveiled on 21 August 2025 includes 12 members representing diverse sectors—from former government leaders to cricket administrators and industry professionals.

- Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka (Former Deputy President). A respected global leader and advocate for gender equality, she previously served as executive director of UN Women.
- Experts in business, tourism, and sports development – brought in to ensure the tournament meets global standards while reflecting African hospitality.
McKenzie emphasized the group’s mission to “co-create an unforgettable experience for players, fans, and stakeholders,” while also leaving lasting legacies in infrastructure and community development.
