Asia Cup 2025: PCB ignore Babar and Rizwan

Asia Cup 2025: Former Pakistan captains Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have been left out of the squad for the Asia Cup T20 tournament, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9 to 28, 2025. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the 17-member squad on Sunday, confirming that the team will also compete in a tri-series in the UAE against Afghanistan and the hosts as part of their preparation.

Salman Agha to Lead Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025

All-rounder Salman Agha has been appointed captain of the side, taking over leadership responsibilities during this crucial tournament. The absence of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, who were also not picked for the T20 leg of the recent West Indies tour where Pakistan lost 2-1, marks a significant change in Pakistan’s short-format strategy.

Despite their proven track records, selectors have opted for younger talent and in-form players. Pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi retains his place, offering Pakistan a strong pace attack. While opener Fakhar Zaman has been declared fit after recovering from a hamstring injury suffered during the West Indies series.
