Nicholas Pooran Named Trinbago Knight Riders Captain for CPL 2025

Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) have officially appointed Nicholas Pooran as their captain for the 2025 Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Succeeding Kieron Pollard, who led the franchise for six seasons. Pollard, who guided TKR to a CPL title in 2020 along with two more playoff appearances, will continue as a player, while West Indies legend Dwayne Bravo returns as head coach, replacing Phil Simmons.

TKR will kick off their CPL 2025 campaign against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots at Warner Park on August 17, aiming for their first title under Pooran’s captaincy.

Pooran, the youngest debutant in CPL history at just 17, has enjoyed an illustrious T20 career with over 9,000 runs at a strike rate close to 149. He was TKR’s top run-scorer last season, amassing 504 runs in 11 matches at an impressive average of 56. Speaking about his new role, Pooran expressed pride in leading the franchise. Crediting the influence of Bravo and Pollard throughout his journey.

“It’s a privilege to lead this team,” said Pooran. “I started my career with Bravo as my captain and later played under Pollard. Now, having them alongside me, plus experienced stars like Sunil Narine and Andre Russell, gives me a lot of confidence.”

Pollard praised the decision, highlighting that Pooran has been groomed for leadership over the years. “He understands our values, winning culture, and has the respect of players worldwide. It’s the perfect time for him to step up,” Pollard stated.

Bravo echoed the sentiment, noting the importance of smooth leadership transitions. “Just like I passed the baton to Pollard, now it’s his turn to hand it to Pooran. We believe he’s on the verge of becoming one of the greatest T20 players,” Bravo said.
